GSMA Mobile360 Asia Pacific conference

Two of our partners, Sean Kennedy and David Darwin recently attended the GSMA’s Asia Pacific Mobile 360 event, in Singapore (https://www.mobile360series.com/asia-pacific/). The event was attended by some 1,500 people and was the first major GSMA event in the region since the pandemic.

Sean moderated a discussion of digital policy, which included representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (Japan), the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Indonesia) and Nokia. The discussion focused on how policymakers were implementing strategies to foster the digital economy and how new tech such as the metaverse, 6G and LEO Satellite systems are being utilised to develop digital nations.

David moderated a “fireside chat” on digital inclusivity with speakers from Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). There was an emphasis on how policymakers were ensuring access to digital and literacy, and safety, associated with new technology, and the consequences what mis/disinformation on telecoms access, and wider society.

This was the first opportunity since the start of the pandemic for the DT Economics team to be in the region for an in-person event. During the trip, David and Sean held meetings with several of our clients. We look forward to further engagement in the region as we grow our business there
